I love this smoothie. I would have one everyday if I could handle that much sugar.
One ripe fresh peach
One frozen ripe banana
One cup homemade almond milk
TBL of sweetener if not sweet enough from banana and peach
Blend until everything is smooth.

Juice for Health
3 carrots
1/2 a lemon
1 apple
(what's so green about this...? just wait)
3 stalks of celery
1/2 a head of lettuce
1/2 cucumber
2 leaves of cabbage
2 leaves of kale
1 cluster of spinach
a handful of cilantro
a twig of rosemary
an inch of ginger
I know this has alot of ingredients-I like variety. You definitely do NOT need all of it. The staples are the first 6 ingredients, and then wing it. It's all about experimenting.
People worry about combining fruit with vegetables: the rule doesn't count when juicing. You are juicing folks-juice all digests at the same rate. I have a friend that made wonderful juice with adding pear to her greens, and another made awesome green juice with mango.
I pour mine into two cups with lids and drink one on the way to work and keep the other on my desk for snacks. At lunch I am still full and have a power bar to snack on when I need a bite. I'm feeling high energy and satisfied and am almost ready to give up my coffee after being back on this for 2 weeks. I do also have two soft boiled eggs for breakfast, so it's not all raw for me. But this is a great way to transition into it. The more you have the more you want. I take a few lettuce leaves and some hummus with me for lunch too if I want more to eat. And I always keep an apple in my desk and some raw almonds. Sometimes they are soaked, sometimes not, but I have them there. Those are the staples.
Tips to starting raw:
keep the food handy
Do not let yourself get hungry
Be prepared
Eat any time you feel the urge. without guilt and without a schedule so you can begin to listen to your own body again
I think I'll go make some carrot juice for bedtime.

Nut milks
I got this off a website and I wish I could remember which one so I could give them credit. but I don't.
RECIPES: Live Nut Milk
Making nut milk is easy and very satisfying. If you drink soy milk or another boxed milk product, you'll never go back after making one of these nut milks.
Live Nut or Seed Milk
For Almond Milk
1 cup soaked almonds
For Hazelnut Milk
1 cup raw hazelnuts (hazelnuts don't contain enzyme inhibitors so you don't have to soak them)
For Brazil Nut Milk
1 cup raw Brazil nuts (Brazil nuts don't contain enzyme inhibitors so you don't have to soak them)
For Hemp Seed Milk
3/4 cup raw hemp seeds
Sweetener: 2-3 dates, or 2 Tbsp honey, maple syrup or agave nectar (optional)
1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Soak your almonds in filtered water for 12 hours; drain, rinse, and dry.
Place your drained nuts, seeds or combination of nuts and seeds (almond and hemp are nice together) in your blender.
Add 2-3 cups of filtered water, a pinch of salt, your desired sweetener and vanilla.
Blend on high until the nuts are completely broken down. Don't over-blend as the friction from the blender will create heat. For small batches, I use a Braun hand blender.
Pour your milk through a nut milk bag or strainer and squeeze as much of the liquid out as possible.
You now have a delicious fresh nut milk to enjoy on its own, with granola or in a smoothie in place of dairy.
Note: Unsweetened pulp is delicious added to hummus or baba ganoush. Don't throw it away; freeze it!

Raw Juice To Start Every Day
Fresh raw juice is the best, most nutritious, easiest to assimilate food you can have! It feeds you. And it feeds you on multiple levels. It has rich color, flavor, smell, and taste. So why isn't everyone doing it?!
Night time tonic:
2-3 apples, washed and quartered. When it comes to apples, organic is best
5-6 stalks celery
1/2 lemon
1 inch of ginger
Juice it and drink it before bed for a tonic that will improve your sleep and end your day the right way.

Juicing in SLC too
I dusted off my juicer-dusty AND on the counter but unused-just yesterday! I shopped for the right produce and I can't wait. It's like coming home to an old friend. I start in the morning. I made a huge pot of vegetable soup to add to the detox, and I'm ordering in Bromalite to do an intestinal cleanse.
Must be the season! It feels perfect. So if I review my favorite green juice:
4 stalks of celery
1/2 cucumber
1/2 lemon with pith
2-4 large leaves of kale
4 large romaine leaves
a handful of cilantro
a handful of parsley
1 apple
a one inch slice of ginger
ready set go! Juicers UP!

Barley Water
This is a biblical recipe.
Barley water is an ancient remedy that was supposed to clear up the complexion and stop the formation of wrinkles. I'm all about that!
8 cups of water
1 cup of barley
pinch of salt.
Bring to a boil, then simmer for about 2 hours. The longer you boil it the thicker the water will be. Strain, and flavor the barley water with honey (up to half a cup), or even raw maple syrup, I'm thinking,
and as you like you can add to the water: cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, lemon, ginger. Try different flavors. Now, these aren't meant to be all at the same time-got it?
You can eat the barley, add it to soup, make it into barley cakes and bake.
So what is it about barley? It's loaded with niacin-B3! Niacin causes a fllush/detox in our system so no wonder it is good for the skin. It's good for gall stones, for the kidneys, for lowering cholesterol-all detox issues right?
The suggestion is to drink 1-2 cups a day, and that it helps speed the fat burning process-again a detox issue yeah?! Sounds good to me! If you try it, let me know what you think of it!

Green and Fruit Juice Smoothie
Here it is, my new favorite smoothie, and you can get some greens in too
1 cucumber
3 stalks celery
1/2 papaya
1/2 mango
throw all this in the vitajuicer!
I used to juice the veges and then add the juice to the fruit, but the vitajuicer is so strong I just eliminated that extra step and cleanup.
You can get bags of fresh frozen mango, and you can get papaya cut up in tubs at Costco to make this easier.

The smoothie was awesome that Lauren posted the other day...and I want to go out and make it tonight.

Fear not....
Its funny, wasnt even 'there' officially with you guys but am so there and was so there...Ive been working through some deep fear stuff and some old grief....this past week though I ahvent had it exit or come up as fear as it usually has, meaning something that literally scares the shit out of me...its come up silently like an image or thought and i just watch it fall off like a flake of skin...no big deal no craziness -- its all sort of slow and peaceful and beautiful in fact....very nice - and like joy said like a lamb...
(well except for a taxi-cab car crash last week....i was sitting in the middle seat between two people and our cab driver was going like 40 miles an hour i saw clearly that we were going to hit an idle car in the left lane and about 30 sec before it happened i started getting back in myt seat and screaming stop stop stop stop!!!!!!! anyway he hit the car (a lexus suv on a friday night in a 'hot' neighborhood - so 2 huge guys all dressed up jumped out ready to pounce!) we all got ok and i walked away thinking what the hell was that about----dont let someone else drive my life?)
anyway i feel really great im in south carolina with sister and mom and baby and we are having a great time-- spent the day with my mom and had a lot of catching up time....i feel so good internally i am listening to my body and have been really clear about what i need and when...
for the past few days ive been drinking the best juice (well best for what my body needs---ive been craving it SO intensely) a place in nyc made it the other day and i was there a few days in a row then made it here in SC this morning - its the immune booster :
beets and carrots juiced then add to
banana garlic in blender
liquid b-12
echinacea/goldenseal dropper
vit-c powder
spirulina
holy shit. i love it.
my body is so hungry for it...
i keep getting that i need to detox (the garlic) yet get more minerals and vitamins as well as immune support....
feels so good to listen .... life is very good - i woke up the other night in ny thinking wow i am so blessed i have all of these amazing amazing people in my life right now talented beautiful kind wonderful souls are swimming and playing in these waves....it was such an amazing feeling.
the fear has been debilitating for the previous part of my life...and shedding it feels so wonderful, especially when i dont have to go into it so intensely to have it vanish...it feels good for a change to just have it peel away in a non-dramatic way....
so excited to see you all...cant wait to play!

A Miracle Happened Here!
Tony brought ME a cup of coffee in bed this morning. Truly-that is a first in the annals of our marriage-31 years-not even after childbirth!!! And he even made it the way I like it...I so thank you for this sweet thoughtful touching gesture, honey! It was so cute!
I have to log it!
It is another milestone!
And Jon last night made raw juice for himself and 4 friends that were over. He wants me to post the recipe for you because it was so good!
1/2 Lemon
1/2 Lime
1 Orange (correction-2 oranges)
3 Carrots
1 Apple
Can you believe it? He says to tell you "no ginger!" His name for it: Citris Supreme!

Tony Juiced For Himself
Wow am I surprised or what? I come home and there on the counter is
a) a dirty juicer
and
b) a tall glass of raw juice with ice in it!
T comes up and says "so, I made juice, wanna taste?" I can see the tops of the carrots and the empty pineapple container.
He put ALOT of pineapple in, probably 4-5 spears, 3 carrots, and an apple. I am counting the refuse on the counter.
And get this: a splash of RUM!
Wow was it good! I didn't even tell him what we made this weekend. He came up with that himself. I think if we lived in San Diego we could make a fortune opening a raw bar-that served mixed drinks! Alcoholic drinks with raw juice. What a hit! He's a happy camper tonight with his creation. And it's good for him too!

Almond Milk

CA knows this because she's been making it for awhile for herself and the kids but some of you were asking how to make it.
I made it today and I really liked it, and I love the taste of the skinned almonds now. They are delicious. I realized that in the last 2 weeks one of the things that I seemed to stop doing was eating nuts! Not good. They are our protein source, and a good source for those phytoestrogens.
In 1999 there were 4 studies that all concluded that just a few almonds a day can lower your blood pressure. Almonds have monounsaturated fats, which are the good guys and are loaded in Vit E, and they are higher in calcium than any other nut out there, and they are a phytoestrogen which means our body loves them!
One oz of raw almonds has 66 mg of calcium, which is as much as ¼ c of milk. So almond milk is a great way to get that “dairy” in if you are missing it.
ALMOND MILKMethod:
1 c almonds soaked overnight. Rinse and soak again in boiling water for 5 min or so, then drain and rinse in cold. The skins will slip off.
Add
4 c water and let it sit for a bit, then blend in the food processor until smooth with no grainy texture.
Add a bit of raw honey or vanilla, or maple syrup, agave or even a few dates to sweeten if you wish.
Any nut can be made into a nut milk.
It will last up to 5 days in the fridge.

BREAKING MORE RULES
Ok so here's another one. Jeez, I thought I wasn't even gonna post tonight! What is up! I told you-I've got almost TOO much energy! It disturbs my usual tranquility!
Anyway-alot of juice freaks say NOT to mix fruit and veges except apples and carrots of course. They seem to go with everything. But is this a real rule that works for you? OR is it one of those that we add to the list of "OLD RULES WE ARE BURNING ALONG WITH OUR BRAS".
In GREEN FOR LIFE, which is a raw book by Victoria Boutentko, she has green smoothies, and she mixes fruit and veges!
Here are some of her combinations:
a banana, half an apple, a cup of blueberries (frozen or fresh), a large handful of spinach, and some plain yogurt.
or
a cup of mango, half a peeled cucumber, ginger, and yogurt.
or
a banana, blueberries, 4-6 kale leaves, an orange, and some yogurt.
or
a banana, half a pear, some cranberries, half an orange, a stalk of celergy, 4-6 romaine lettuce leaves
she adds water to these.
Anyone care to try and let us know? I'm not so sure about the banana with kale...but hey! It's sounds colorful for sure! Hey Jac, how about drinking this in front of the kiddies.
I would bet you can get away without the yogurt. I add some ice cubes to make it thicker. They also use some water if it is too thick in the blender.
