Chia-ancient food of the Aztecs

I got an interesting email from Greens + that was all about CHIA.

Chia superfood omega 3 has chia chocolate, and chia recipes.

Aztec warriors, it says, drank Chia water before battle, for stamina. I'm curious it that's the same idea as the barley water?
Is that imprinting?

Chia has a shelf life of 5 years so if you don't use it today, not to worry. Chia seems to stabilize blood sugar levels so there is a diabetic study going on.

Chia is gluten free! It's a complete whole food.
To answer CA's question about chia:

It seems to gel like psyillium seed so you can use it as a thickening agent and it looks like only a TBS or two is needed.
Some suggestions are to add it to the liquid when doing cake mixes, then add it to the dry ingredients.
Chia for health.com has recipes. I've found over and over that you mix it in water to make a gel and use that. I don't think there is an soaking per say. Let me know what you find works for you!

here's our earlier post on CHIA
