I'm back in Berkeley for awhile and near my mother after 35 years. It's funny, but I didn't realize what a rule follower she was and how I am at heart a rule breaker! I hear the rule, and automatically it seems (maybe more as I get older but hey) I say ..."um...no."
For instance that rule about drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day? I've never been a big water drinker. Drinking water is always something I've had to consciously think about. I carry water bottles in the car, in the backpack. I still have to remind myself to drink. I must be a camel, but I'm just not thirsty! I eat a lot of raw fresh food though so I figured a long time ago that I must be getting my water that way. But always people would pound me with "are you drinking enough water?"
Juicing and raw foods are hydrated, which means they carry a high water content! So, I'm gratified to read this morning on Yahoo's Healthy Living that we get to break the old rules...at last! I feel vindicated! I feel justified. I feel...unthirsty and it's ok!!
The old rule >> 'drink 8 glasses of water a day' was written in 1945!!! Folks, talk about not updating our software programs! Sheesh~
New rule >> eat fresh food every day. That's raw folks! EAT YOUR WATER! Get that fresh food into you and you'll be hydrated! You gott admit, you can see it in people's skin if they eat fresh.
The other 3 rules to rethink according to the article:
Old rule >> Eat 9 servings of fresh food
New rule >> fill half your plate with fresh and enjoy
This means less counting portions and more just reach for fresh. I hate counting. This a simpler, user friendly rule so again, we've been advocating this already! Remember that the darker the color the more nutrient dense it is.
But my rule: eat as much raw as you can and simply don't worry even about the half a plate thing! EAT THE FRESH FIRST!
Avoid red meat >> eat the meat, just make it lean and organic.
I know this is a raw-ish food blog but you know if you need red meat, so eat it when you feel like it.
OUR number one rule here is FOLLOW your body's lead. Pay attention to the internal signals and relax around food!
Rule number 4 to bust out of >> BMI! Oh for the love of Pete, I've always hated statistics. I almost flunked it in school. Mathematical experts really take the cake out of life you know? When mathematicians started dictating that we had to fall within a range of numbers, people started looking at the numbers instead of tuning in to how they FELT!
""People come in different sizes and shapes," says Joanne Ikeda, nutritionist emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley. "The idea that everyone should fall under 25 is ludicrous." A person can have a high BMI and still be healthy, Ikeda argues. Research supports the theory: A Journal of the American Medical Association study found that fit women--even if they were overweight according to their BMI--were less likely to suffer a heart attack than those who were out of shape. Ikeda advises her patients to stop obsessing over their BMI, eat a nutritious diet, and log 150 minutes of exercise per week. "A healthy lifestyle results in a healthy weight."
Thank you BERKELEY and Joanne Ideda. YES! We are NOT all going to fall into an optimum range. And we are NOT all going to die if we don't hit those numbers. PLEASE-start living your life! Eat a little chocolate-make it the GOOD STUFF! DRINK a little wine-make it the GOOD STUFF

Tabouleh Salad Recipe
I like these videos by Rita Heikenfeld. She has 77 of them on line and they are well made.
The quality is good, and although she isn't all raw, she has some great tips and information and recipes.
Here is one that is raw though:
Rinse your bulgar wheat three times, then let it sit until all the water is absorbed.
1 bunch Parsley
1 bunch green onions
fresh chopped tomatoes
bell pepper
radishes
english cucumber
chop them all fine, add wheat
add 2-3 tsp cumin,
fresh basil, fresh spearmint
Go on and watch some of her other videos-she has 77!
Note:
I added chopped garlic, sesame seeds and some chopped pine nuts to mine, and some cumin seeds. This is extremely good-and smells wonderful! Serve with crackers, melba toast rounds, or if you are raw, fill lettuce leaves with it, or sliced cucumbers instead of crackers.

Stuffed Portabello Mushrooms - Raw Recipe
I made a cooked version the other night and then thought it could be easily adapted to raw. I was right!
3-4 Large Portabello Mushrooms - stems removed (and reserved for something else)
In a bowl with a lid, layer the mushroom caps with olive oil, balsamic vinegar. Cover and turn every few minutes while making the stuffing. Allow to marinate at least an hour, or overnight.
Stuffing:
Chop baby spinach leaves - a couple of handfuls
6 sprigs of fresh cilantro-chopped
4 leaves of basil - chopped
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup dried cranberries
1/4 cup dried cherries
(or you can use raisins)
Balsamic vinegar and olive oil
salt, pepper, sprinkle of red peppers or cayenne to taste
Allow to marinate about an hour
then add:
1/2 cup feta cheese
Stuff the mushroom caps, and add some fresh raspberries to the top and serve!
Yummy
And this is great the next day for a lunch on the go.

Trusting Ourselves with Food AGAIN
Why is it so hard to just trust that if we eat natural, organic and whole foods, that our body CAN do what it is designed to?
Why do we seem to have a basic distrust of ourselves?
I hate to point a finger at mom, but I think as a generation we were raised to be (and our parents too)
on a schedule
obedient
and to ignore and override our natural inclinations, likes and dislikes
We were supposed to poop and pee on demand and not pay attention to need. (the idea of sitting on the toilet for hours waiting? You don't know when you have to poop? But you know, many don't. And if they haven't gone first thing in the morning, they stay home and pace until it happens. Their day is ruined. SO much angst around poops...gotta be the original training imprints!)
We were supposed to eat on schedule and whatever was in front of us and not pay attention to our own wants, likes or desires, and eat it ALL.
We were supposed to sleep on a schedule and not recognize when we are tired or overdone. And every night the same with no variety.
We aren't supposed to ever get sick, need to slow down, or listen to ourselves, and if we do something is seriously wrong. Hey, a cold MEANS you are detoxing. It is a sign of overdone and sometimes it's the only way your body CAN get you to stop)
So is it no wonder that we, as a generation and a nation, are still turning to other people to be the experts of us?
Do you LIKE the green super foods? If you LIKE THEM, and they LIKE YOU your body will let you know.
IF you LIKE, oh, chia seeds for instance, or hemp or sunflower seeds, and they LIKE YOU, then eat them, add them to your food and enjoy, not because they are the new superfood, but because you LIKE THEM. And it agrees with you.
RAW food was and is an effort to get back to nature, back to basics, back to food that isn't over chemicaled and over processed. It was an attempt to simplify, and the posts from other blogs while good information, never seem to say if they LIKE IT. Just what we should be doing and arguing about who has the best super food. I agree, adding them ALL is overkill. And I don't like gogi berries either much, and I don't like INKA berries at all. Ew. I tried them, and regardless of how good they are for me, I don't eat them. But it's good information, and it's worth trying for yourself. Remember when we all tried maca?!
In doing RAWish I discovered the tastes and smells and textures and joy of food again. We can go over intellectual with Raw, and we will miss the benefit. Eating should be a connection to your emotional body. It should satisfy us all the way through. Our body isn't a machine with food being the fuel. If that's what you think you are missing the vital component!
RAWish satisfies me emotionally and nurtures me. It makes me feel good. I feel listened to and I feel full on many levels. I like the cutting and the tasting, the mixing and the smells. It has become a whole process again of feeding myself inside.
I had gotten to a place where I hated to cook. I was overwhelmed with all the no-lists and all the suggested things I was supposed to be doing and I didn't feel good AND I didn't know why.
I was doing the right things and I wasn't feeling it. And I was also doing the wrong things, and worse yet feeling GUILTY about it.
GUILT is a toxic emotion and for many of us it's linked to food. Think about it.
When I started to simplify my foods, adding juicing, and big raw dishes, more vegetables and got back into raw nuts, seeds, grains and away from processed breads and pastas, my body responded. My sleep improved, my skin improved, my energy improved. I stopped worrying about if I was doing the right thing. When I got rid of the rules, and the restrictions and the beliefs that I had to be on a schedule, I got happy.
That concept if something is good for us, MORE is better doesn't apply. With food, less is better. Too much and our digestive system is overwhelmed. But with raw, consistent is good for us. Grazing. But maybe even that-not for everyone.
Eating when we need to, when we feel hungry, isn't something we were generally raised on. The fear of 'being hungry' is what I most often hear people say when they are switching to more raw. Hunger, REAL hunger-most of us have really never known.
A little hungry-good for us! The LDS culture promotes fasting once a week. I'm not mormon, but you know, it's a dang good idea! AND when they have an issue before them, they fast for 24 hours and then pray on it. ALSO a good idea. Get the belly empty to get more insight.
When we do raw, the body doesn't have to work so hard at digesting. We all felt more light, both inside and above. I'm not saying if you want to be spiritual you have to give up meat. LOL Please. If there is one thing we learned, it's the ISH. It all works.
But filling up with more of other people's rules for you isn't what it's about. Finding out what really does work for you is. So, get into yourself. Really learn to listen, Pay attention to what feeds you! Not what they say you should be doing.
Get over doing it wrong, and experiment. For goodness sake folks, PLAY! And stop taking it all so seriously. I'm going to make my raw juice now. Celery, Romaine, cucumber, apple, lemon, ginger and a couple of carrots. That's breakfast for me!

BASIL
I've been craving basil lately. Fresh. Buying big containers of it. Putting it in my green juice, and cooking everything with it. It smells divine when you chop it. So I was curious what it might be about BASIL...
Basil contains FOLIC ACID-which is a B vitamin. Also it's a good source of potassium, and iron and calcium. Good for the respiratory system. It aids in digestion too as it helps the body produce saliva. Basil is also a good source of Vitamin A.
I was just updating the list on nutrients, and was noticing that I was probably low in Vit A as my eyes have been dry and I don't seem to be seeing as well, especially at night, and low in potassium and magnesium as my 'restless or jumpy' legs had started up again.

MACA Information

Similar to a radish, and stored like ginseng for up to 7 years when dried, Maca is a root like vegetable from...PERU! Again! Yep, here we go again.
Vi used to push ChacaMaca balls a few years ago. They were chocolate balls with maca in them, wrapped in foil. She LOVED them. Swore they made you feel good. I didn’t notice much, so I wasn’t convinced. But how do we use it raw? And why exactly?
It only grows at really high elevations-up to 15,000 feet. Natives use it for food and medicine. Promotes endurance, vitality (I am flashing to the image of those sturdy little compact people living way up there definitely putting us to shame with our huffing and puffing…
Feeding mice maca seems to have tripled the male sexual drive-wow. It enhances sexual desire. Hmmmm. I recall Don Manual saying with a twinkle “the bark may be old but the wood is mighty” and he was in his 90s then! They call it Peru’s natural Viagra. Ok chalk another one up for PERU and their food. Yeehaa. No wonder it was “highly revered by the Incas”!
It has 10% protein, and 60% carbohydrate as well as fatty acids. Good mix for raw us. And something they called “macaenes” and “macamides” which give it the sexy zip! Sounds like a country song…or punk rock?
It’s high in potassium, and has higher levels of calcium than cow’s milk. AND it’s an adaptogen which means it adapts to the body.
How do we get it into our raw diets though? Well in Peru, Maca isn’t a supplement. It’s food. Simple. And that’s what we are doing. Simple. They seem to mix it into anything you would use a flour for.
“At several booths, women were making maca blender drinks. Maca roots soaked in jars of water, and the tables were laden with all the ingredients for a drink. The typical shake includes a couple of soaked maca roots and a little bit of the soak water, a handful of fresh papaya (trucked up from the warm lowlands), some condensed milk, an egg, honey and vanilla, all put together with vigor and smiles. I asked a number of people why they used maca, but one woman stands out in my mind. She smiled at my question and replied, "Well, for the sex, of course."” I can't remember the site I got that quote from or I would link to it. Anyway!
Toss a tbs in a blender drink and enjoy it daily…hmmm…Tony DID say he would do some raw with me…he’ll never know what hit him.
Here’s a maca mixed drink called- The Bullet ride: maca, purple corn and rum! What’s purple corn?

Myth of Freshness...
The following is a quote from the front of an AOL news article tonight:
"In the first comprehensive study of the antioxidant content of various juices, published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, researchers at the University of Glasgow examined 13 different brands of fruit juices from a local U.K. supermarket.
They measured the number as well as the levels of antioxidants in apple, orange, grapefruit, cranberry, pineapple, tomato and grape juice, and found that purple grape juice has the highest concentration of antioxidants among juices. In fact, the more popular orange juice or clear apple juice have the lowest antioxidant content.
When ABCNews.com interviewed Alan Crozier, professor of plant biochemistry and human nutrition, who led the study, he claimed that "there is absolutely no difference between juice made from concentrate and freshly-squeezed juice, as far as antioxidants are concerned."
What matters is the fruit used to begin with: Purple grapes, cranberries and pomegranates do a good deal more to protect us from disease than oranges and pineapples, according to Crozier."
Course, the study was funded by Welch's...
AND they didn't study fresh juice did they. They compared 13 brands of fruit juices from the local supermarket.

Brazilian Berries
Ok, this is pretty cool. in petrie dishes, this berry from Brazil killed signifigant numbers of leukemic cells! How many is significant? 35-85% Wow!
Click for the acai berry article
And guess what? Grapes, guavas and mangoes have the same effect on cancer cells, they kill em. Color of the Acai berry? Dark purple and the size of a blueberry. Eat more fruits! They are rich in antioxidants.

BEET SALSA RECIPE, AND SOME BEET FACTOIDS

BEETS
Recipe: Beet salsa
4 good size beets (about one bunch in the store)
1 red onion
garlic
olive oil
s, p, a splash of apple cider vinegar
Cut the green tops off, and save them for juicing.
Gently clean the beets. The skin is tender, so don’t be too rough with them. You can shred them raw in the food processor or you can cook them gently for about 20 min. Put a dash of vinegar in the water. You want them still firm but partially cooked.
Rinse them and let them cool off.
Then wearing rubber gloves, peel the skin off and put them in the food processor, along with the red onion and the rest of the ingredients. Let it set for about 20 min.
You can use this with any vegetables as a fresh raw salsa.
You can use it with lettuce for rollups
You can add cut up potatoes for a great potato salad.
I liked mine over baked squash. Wow was this pretty.
Guess what! “Cook beets lightly-heat destroys the anti-cancer nutrients in beets”. Add lemon juice or a swig of vinegar to the water. Oh and wear gloves because they stain, and you want to peel them AFTER you lightly cook.
You can grate them and eat raw, you can add them to soups. You can add them to vege juice, only a quarter of a beet will do ya.
You can marinate fresh steamed beet in lemon juice, olive oil and garlic with a dash of fresh oregano-perfect!
Nutritionally, beets have B vitamins, are an excellent source of folate, and a very good source of manganese and potassium. Also, C, iron, copper and phosphorus all get a “good” rating. But guess what, that “can” of beets-has corn fructose AND sugar added and nutritionally – it’s all 0%. Yep. 0% source of iron. Hmmmm. According to the can label-it has NO nutritional value.
Toss the cans-grab the fresh and some rubber gloves. Oh and if you are doing fresh-get the beets WITH the tops and juice those greens. Apparently they have even more nutritional value than the root. Enjoy!

Almond Milk

CA knows this because she's been making it for awhile for herself and the kids but some of you were asking how to make it.
I made it today and I really liked it, and I love the taste of the skinned almonds now. They are delicious. I realized that in the last 2 weeks one of the things that I seemed to stop doing was eating nuts! Not good. They are our protein source, and a good source for those phytoestrogens.
In 1999 there were 4 studies that all concluded that just a few almonds a day can lower your blood pressure. Almonds have monounsaturated fats, which are the good guys and are loaded in Vit E, and they are higher in calcium than any other nut out there, and they are a phytoestrogen which means our body loves them!
One oz of raw almonds has 66 mg of calcium, which is as much as ¼ c of milk. So almond milk is a great way to get that “dairy” in if you are missing it.
ALMOND MILKMethod:
1 c almonds soaked overnight. Rinse and soak again in boiling water for 5 min or so, then drain and rinse in cold. The skins will slip off.
Add
4 c water and let it sit for a bit, then blend in the food processor until smooth with no grainy texture.
Add a bit of raw honey or vanilla, or maple syrup, agave or even a few dates to sweeten if you wish.
Any nut can be made into a nut milk.
It will last up to 5 days in the fridge.
MEGA RAWEO

This company, BLESSINGS ALIVE, hails from BERKELEY-yeah!
Wow if you want a yummy raw treat, try this. It's expensive at $3.16 in Good Earth. At least I thought so until I saw it on line for $5.00 and about that in Wild Oats. Hmmmmm.
This is big treat - a 3" double raw chocolatey tasting cookie and looks like a huge oreo, with an almond nut filling. Oh wow. hmm hmm hmm hmmm hmmm. I nibbled at it for 3 days, and I loved it! :) All the ingredients are organic and raw. Soaked almonds, coconut, raw honey, carob, cashews, and vanilla. Big thumbs up!
ISOFLAVONES

Ok, so here is another one of those “words” that people are throwing around in health circles-and what exactly does it mean, besides that they are good for us?
They are a class of phytochemicals-(and what does THAT mean?) Phyto always means “plant” so that’s a start. They are a type of phytoestrogen-so plant hormone that is similar to human estrogen. Got it. Hey, that’s good too!
So, what sort of plants have isoflavones? The legumes especially chick peas (garbanzo beans) and … tada … soybeans. Soybeans have the highest concentration of isoflavone compounds, and apparently, in particular, genistein and daidzein.
Genistein inhibits those cells that would do that fatty buildup in the arterial walls-which means anyone that has tendencies towards high cholesterol, heart disease, stroke, atherosclerosis - great stuff to get in the daily recipes.
More good news - because it is a phytoestrogen, it will satisfy those overabundant estrogen receptors we have accumulated (in our fat) due to poor eating for years. That means it will lower our overall estrogen counts; more good news because elevated estrogen results in, and encourages the growth of, fibroids in the uterus and breasts. UC did a study that showed that genistein actually killed cancer cells in a similar way to those cancer killing drugs! Wa-hoo. What type of cancer? It happened to be prostate cancer.
Isoflavones promote strong bones, according to the U of Hong Kong, and U of Illinois, and the N.A.M.S. (north American menopause society) goes so far as to say it could well be a natural alternative to estrogen replacement therapy if you are getting symptoms.
The best way to get the soy? Naturally, naturally. EDAMAME. Those soy beans in the pods have the highest isoflavones, and tempeh. The bottom of the list is soy milk, and tofu, just for the record. Try adding a serving a day and see how you FEEL!
Here’s news from another study which said just switching to a “healthier” diet, not even to raw, just adding fruits and vegetables to the diet, and reducing fats and sugar, according to their study, showed a drop of 36% in blood estrogen levels within 8 to 10 weeks! Why? Those phytoestrogens in the plants products are binding to the cell receptors, and at the same time, satisfying the body.
Other food sources for phytoestrogens … NUTS! If you start to feel crabby, bitchy, pissy, irritable…oh you know, that general PMS feeling-your estrogen is DROPPING. Did you stop eating your NUTS? (hahaha, sorry) Eat those nuts and oils. Flaxseed oil in particular, add flaxseed meal to the smoothies and juices for a nutty texture, and our greens, and try adding Edamame. Costco has big bags of it, and kids love to eat the beans out of the pod. They are a bit addicting too.

TURMERIC
I've been saying outloud for days now, "I need to get some Turmeric" but I couldn't figure out why. It's not a spice that I routinely use; in fact I wasn't quite sure what it was. All I knew was that it was in my head...that word...Turmeric.
So tonight I decided to look it up. What is the big deal about Turmeric, I wondered? Why was that word not going to let me alone?
Wel Turmeric seems to BE a big deal. Turns out there is a lot of research going on. The Native Americans know it by HALDI. It's good for just about everything but, in particular, the blood and the LIVER! Remember my telling you last night about that stone in my mesa that I've been having a love / hate with? My "liver" stone? Well maybe I should rename it TUMERIC
Turmeric increases bile, panreatic and gastric juices. So if that's the case-it definitely is assiting in right digestion in the intestinal tract. It's good for TB, (lungs), and bronchitis, and then it's good for the LIVER, and for lymphomas. It's anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, anti-mutagenic, an anti-oxidant, and anti-bacterial, and it's a diuretic. Hmmmm
Who would have thought?

BRAZILIAN BERRY DESTROYS CANCER CELLS
Ok, this is pretty cool. in petrie dishes, this berry from Brazil killed signifigant numbers of leukemic cells! How many is significant? 35-85% Wow!
Click for the acai berry article
And guess what? Grapes, guavas and mangoes have the same effect on cancer cells, they kill em. Color of the Acai berry? Dark purple and the size of a blueberry. Eat more fruits! They are rich in antioxidants. Eat more color! I can' say that enough. That's why this is all about the art on your plate baby! Make it beautiful! Make it sing!
UNIVERSAL TASTE is a Brazilian owned company that returns a percentage of the profits to the rainforest tribes.

SOMATIC SELF AND HIDING FROM OUR EMOTIONS
We know that emotions are in our intestinal tract. We have more neurons in our Somatic body than in our central nervous system. Your somatic self is what I call your "Primary" brain. First and foremost we are a feeding organism. The intestinal tract (which really runs from your mouth to your anus) chooses, confronts, digests and absorbs what feeds us, both nutritionally as well as emotionally. Yep, your somatic self is a sensing organism. It has to be! And we have been trained to ignore it for the most part, or override it, or be intimidated by it, but certainly we were not trained to honor it, respect it or value the information it gives us.
All the greens are clearing me at such a deep level and in an almost uncomfortable way. I looked at the glass of greens this morning and thought "I can't!" But I did. I like them! I do! But I knew when I drank it that something was going on inside me.
I was well fed today. I had the vege rolls Jac suggested, and an avocado before we left for the Lotus to look for some more rocks (God help us-we are rock nuts). I suddenly had such a drop in my blood sugar that I sat on the floor in the store and felt like I was going to pass out. Hmmmm. I had been directly working on blood and mind programs-releasing secrets. Well well well. "How close are you to passing out?" asked Lauren.
I smiled as I sat on the floor. "Pretty close!" It made no rational physical sense. I had eaten. I was rested. I was not "consciously" stressed. Linda went to the car and got a Larabar for me, which helped. But what was really going on?
I had been agitated all day. I had fought something during the night and I woke tired. What was up? I wasn't feeling chipper today. I felt grumpy. I was annoyed too when we had no heat this morning even though the landlords were there and working on the boiler. I felt pissy! I didn't want to be cold! I realized the old program would be to eat something. I don't like that agitated feeling. I usually stuff it. How old was I anyway? I didn't ask. No one asked. We got busy and did a very left brain note taking sort of day, which frankly relieved us all! :)
Last night I had 3 disturbing dreams. All were about my emotional body, the role being dream-played by my beautiful black cat Coco. Dream 3 she was being attacked by this ugly sick looking cat...hmmm...I wanted her to leave it alone completely...a mangy red and yellow cat that looked like it had been left in the dryer way too long...doesn't take a genius to figure that one out. Coco did get too close, and this thing that appeared to be half dead and inattentive-attacker her. I was me, adult, looking down from above. I was much much bigger than this ugly mangy cat that was tottering around half dead, beast mostly slain but still a danger it seemed. Habit? I tried to stick my foot inbetween them-a really half assed attempt I will admit, but you know what I noticed? Coco was doing just fine. She engaged, conquered and was done with it. Hmmmm. It wasn't even a match.
In dream 1 Coco was absolutely reveling in blue flames, rolling in them, unhurt, just fine. 3 burners worth of flames coming up out of the ground. Reminding me fire transforms? Reminding me that fire is friendly? I was trying to get her out, mildly afraid I would be burned, mildly afraid she would be. I was almost sure I could smell burning fur. In the dream I kept expecting to see her fry or melt or suddenly howl-but no. Ok ok. Got that one too.
The second dream-blank. Almost.I remember something-flat looking yellow eyes and a squat face. I woke up unable to really breathe. Lungs cleared in about a half hour. Something there? Oh yea. I've seen those eyes before. I woke off and on all night. I remember thinking it was because I had had the soup late, and I could feel it in my intestines. I vowed sleepily to make sure I ate earlier from now on because this disturbance wasn't fun. It was be intestinal emotional memory coming up from all the greens. Yeah, I knew that.
But my gremlins came out in the store as I sat there on the floor. "You need to eat something RIGHT NOW. Forget this vegetable and fruit stuff. Stop at Molca Salsa and get some eggs. Go get some protein. Your blood sugars are off. Come on, eat why don't you! You can't keep doing this. This doesn't make any sense." Blah blah blah. And that pervasive "you know you probably haven't lost any weight anyway. It's not like you are going to blow anything. Come on. No one is going to know. And you don't have to be perfect. This is raw - ish. You can start again tomorrow. You are getting SICK! Come on. EAT!"
I felt depressed. Then I remembered the deep sense of grief and congestion when I woke up this morning. I couldn't breathe. My chest was tight. Hmmmm. But I stayed in charge. I noticed it all. It was fascinating to clearly feel it all over my body.
I realized that my distraction programs were kicking it up a notch to get me to stop. What was the point of getting me to stop? I must be getting too close to buried treasure! It's a bit like the Momma bird that plays wounded to distract from the predator getting too close to the nest. I was too close to something, and I didn't even "know" what it was.
I stopped at the grocery store on the way home. It is damn cold up here. Minus numbers. I sat in the car and tried to talk myself out of going in. I told myself I could have absolutely anything I wanted though. I bought 4 cans of sliced pickled beets. Beets? I had been thinking of them all day I realized. Pickled beets. I came home and had a can of beets to myself with olive oil and garlic, lots of celtic salt and pepper and raw pinenuts. Oh heaven! I ate every single one. I had another bowl of my green soup, warmed. I had made it the night before. Rebecca, make a vege soup because it helps alot to have some warm soup when this hits. I felt totally satisfied, and I had truly eaten what I wanted. I made a big bowl of avocado and tangerine slices with olive oil but was too full to even attempt to eat it. But why beets I wondered?
Funny thing about beets-I ate exactly what my body needed nutritionally! Beets are excellent for blood, and are a great source of iron, calcium, sulfur and potassium, as well as beta carotene and C. And guess what. Beets contribute directly to the LIVER and GALLBLADDER, and stimulate the LYMPHS, so it all makes perfect sense! Beets stimulate bile, and help to flush the KIDNEYS.
Emotionally-I had been feeling angry, which is LIVER, and I woke feeling congestion which is LYMPH, and pissy-that's KIDNEYS, and I was trying to sort things out to release them-also KIDNEYS. I was trying to keep "secrets" from myself, which means the BLOOD, and feeling that tired feeling-BONES, so calcium. And calcium is about communication with self. Bone programs kick in when we don't want to move towards something and when we are trying to keep secrets in. Wow. I listened to my body, and it really did pick a nutritional solution! My BODY did. My MIND wanted to distract me, bad.
All the greens-Garlic reduces blood pressure. Parsley helps cleanse the liver and kidneys and stimulates the intestines-that's my soup which I had last night and this morning, as well as again tonight. Hmmmm. It's also in those green juices every morning. And spinach. Spinach stimulates the liver, lymphs and blood. Wheatgrass-duplicates the hemoglobin of blood and again, stimulates the kidneys and liver to cleanse as well as the urinary tract.
In letting my body really decide on the food, it made the right choices based on what was trying to release. I'm really going to bed feeling quite pleased now and much less defeated than I was feeling today. I am releasing instead of holding and hiding and fighting. That's big for me.

GOJI BERRIES

THIS time the wonder food is from Tibet! Think of the taste of cranberries and cherries and you will have it. They are sweet, and you buy them dried in bags, and they have a pretty red color even dry. They’re about the size of raisins.
This is another sexual potency fruit-hmmmmm we are awakening the wild feminine afterall! ☺
This may be the most nutritionally rich berry on the planet according to researchers, so give it a try. This little fruit has 21 trace minerals including iron, copper, zinc and calcium as well as germanium, selenium and phosphorus. It also has 18 amino acids, and B1,2 and 6, as well as E. Pretty good for a little berry. They also are anti-inflammatories, have linleic acid, and a bunch of other stuff I can’t spell. They boost the immune system and the libido apparently. So we were talking about longevity right? Well, Li Qing Yuen, ate goji berries every day and he lived to be (ready for this?) 252 years old! I kid you not! 1678-1930. His life is one of the best documented cases of extreme age we have. Hah! If he can we can. And look at all that pretty color! BTW-this is a kirilan photograph of a fresh goji berry-wow!

POMEGRANATE TRIVIA
Pomegranates are the new super food don't cha know! They are fat free, chock full of Vitamin A, E, and C-which translates into antioxidants. It has potassium and is rich in IRON.
It kills cancer cells, and slows tumour growth, is an anti-inflammatory. It's great for pregnant mothers, clears clogged arteries, and is good for the heart as it reduces fat deposits on arterial walls, so it also combats hardening of the arteries, and it seems to stabilze PSA levels in men with prostate cancer and Pomegranate seed oil causes breast cancer cells to self destruct. Well, are we surprised? LOOK at that beautiful color!
Choose a fruit that feels heavy, and look for the brightest color! You can store the seeds in an airtight container for 3 mns in the refrig. They last forever, and Costco is selling the seeds (fresh) as well as some really wonderful fresh Pomegranate juice.
In Babylonia it was considered an agent of resurrection. The Greeks called it the fruit of the dead. In Persia they believed it made their warriors invincible. In China it is eaten for longevity. It first appeared in Persia. The Egyptians would put Pomegranates in with the dead.
The Pomegranate tree that bears the fruit represents eternal life. And the part of the stem that attached it to the tree is in the shape of the Mogen Star-the Star of David.
In the mythical tale of the unicorn, pomegranate seeds "bled" from its horn, which symbolized Christ. The Pomegranate was used on the coat of arms for Catherine of Aragon, who was Henry IIX's Spanish wife.
Iranian scholars contemplate that it was the POMEGRANATE that was eaten in the Garden of Eden and NOT the apple, and Mohammed said it purges one of envy and hatred. Well, that fits because it clears the blood-where we house our passion and spiritual essence.
